Why do I get the error message 'VIRTUAL_MACHINE_NOT_ALLOWED' when using CmActLicense and Hyper V?

Share:

More recent Windows server systems, e.g. Windows Server 2008, can use the virtual environment "Hyper-V". If you use Hyper-V, this error may occur, as Hyper V inserts itself between the host system and the hardware, and thus the host system is detected as a virtual machine (VM).

For security reasons CmActLicense was not configured for use in Hyper-V environments up to CodeMeter version 5.00c. This has to be featured separately by the Independent Software Vendor (ISV).
