CodeMeter, Wibu’s flagship for software protection, meets industrial standards

CodeMeter form factors available for use with the OPC-UA standard.

The OPC Unified Architecture (UA) is establishing itself more and more as a consolidated standard in the automation industry. Compared to OPC, OPC-UA provides security functions for authentication and secure encrypted communications. One challenge factories face is the secure key storage and the roll out of certificates. More details will be revealed during SPS IPC Drives 2013 at Wibu-Systems booth, stand 640, hall 7.

Since November 2012, Wibu-Systems has been working to guarantee the support of the OPC-UA standard; at the time of last year SPS edition, the company demonstrated how certificates and keys are stored in CmContainers, either in a smart card-based CmDongle, ideal to the many industrial interfaces, or in a CmActLicense file, that can be bound to a secure element on the target system.

Ascolab and Wibu-Systems are working together in a ZIM-funded project aimed at integrating CodeMeter with OPC-UA client and server stacks.

Oliver Winzenried, CEO and founder of Wibu-Systems, adds:  "With the increasing interconnection of control and automation systems, security becomes more and more a must. OPC-UA is an ISO standard which provides mechanisms for authentication and encryption. In practice, the handling and rolling out of certificates is still very complex for the user. With CodeMeter we offer a way to simplify these processes. We are proud to show the first available solutions at our booth to SPS IPC Drives visitors."
