CodeMeter technology protects embedded software and prevents tampering

At this year’s Hannover Messe, in its own booth, D05 in hall 8, Wibu-Systems will show how manufacturers can protect their embedded software from tampering. The ground principle is based on the secure boot mechanism integrated in CodeMeter technology, which companies can start evaluating with the starter kit for the Raspberry Pi.

Digital signatures and certificates ensure the integrity of embedded software. This allows for only properly signed applications to run. A signature is considered valid when the program comes from a legitimate publisher who owns the matching private key for signing that has not been altered. In the event of software tampering or malware presence, the signature will be detected as invalid, thus preventing the execution of the application.

Oliver Winzenried, CEO and Founder of Wibu-Systems, explains: ʺOn the one hand, manufacturers have expressed a need to maintain and update their embedded systems remotely, but on the other hand, their necessity is to keep such systems secure from all possible sorts of cyber-attacks. The new SDK shows how easily secure boot can be combined with a flexible enablement of specific functions and know-how protection.ʺ
