On starting a protected application, the error 38 is displayed and the application does not start. Why?

This error occurs when certain parts of a CmContainer have been locked after a defined value has been reached in a special counter.

This locking may have several reasons:

  • Our protection system has detected a debugger trying to access the encrypted software. For security reasons, the special counter is set to the defined value in this case.
  • The independent software vendor (ISV) has implemented the special counter and the decrement has reached the defined value.
  • The CmContainer is part of the blacklist of the ISV and has been locked.

To reverse this locking, the special counter has to be set to a different value in all of the above instances. This can be only done by the ISV reprogramming the license.

Please contact the vendor of your software product.
