Industrial Internet Security Forum

The explosive rise of connected devices has exposed industrial system networks that used to be insulated from attacks to threats of ever increasing sophistication, creating enormous risks for businesses that operate industrial processes. There can be no doubt about the need to protect against error, mischance, and malicious intent.

Join us for a public forum on securing the Industrial Internet. The key contributors to the Industrial Internet Security Framework (IISF), a common security framework developed to address security issues in Industrial Internet of Things systems, will offer in-depth presentations, security case studies, special panels, and demonstrations.

The IISF provides details on five characteristics - security, privacy, resilience, reliability, and safety – that help define “trustworthiness” in Information Technology (IT) systems and Operational Technology (OT) systems. The IISF defines risk assessments, threat metrics, and performance indicators to help business managers protect their organizations.

Marcellus Buchheit, co-founder of Wibu-Systems AG and CEO of Wibu-Systems USA, will concentrate specifically on ways to protect IIoT endpoints. In IIoT, an endpoint is any component with an interface for network communication. This includes connected sensors, PLCs, embedded systems, mobile devices, industrial and desktop computers up to cloud-based virtual machines. The implementation of software in IIoT endpoints provides the great opportunities of Internet-connected systems and must also address security concerns against all types of remote threats. Trustworthy endpoints meet key system characteristics and architectural standards of security, safety, reliability, resilience, and privacy. In particular, root of trust provides confidence on the endpoint identity, and integrity protection ensures the endpoint is in the configuration required to perform its functions predictably.
